Thoughts

I used to just wander in to your maisonette and make myself at home. I used to help you wash your cars and pick auntie Sandra with you up from work . I called you my second Daddy , you chauffeured a special car for my wedding and you were great friends to my mum and dad for over 60 years. You will be sadly missed

Our dearest (great) great Grandpa. The most strongest, selfless, hard working and knowledgeable man. My children are so incredibly fortunate to have had you as their great grandpa. Here’s just a few of the memories we’ll tightly hold onto. Getting your toolbox when a child has a wobbly tooth, asking if it’s wet or dry water at swimming, a breakdown of how many years down to the seconds on our birthdays, a joke about the internet- “I only put my clothes on the line, do you mean a spiders web?” Lardy cakes, turning up and peering through the window, the master of supplying chocolate treats and ice cream money, playing ‘I got your nose’, always saying “I’ll wash up next time”, changing my battery and saying it’s “flat”, having a laugh at my sense of direction and telling me where to go even though you’re sat at home, Lady Godiva and getting me a flea collar. I’ll miss getting you a McFlurry and you saying how much you enjoyed it. Grandparents are a delightful blend of laughter, caring deeds, wonderful stories and love. You’re a true gentleman, a legend, our Gramps forever and always. Shine bright to “the young man of Earley”, “Thanknyou”.

I miss you answering the phone with different silly responses I miss you asking me why I am powdering my nose again I miss your jokes and banter I miss you asking me for brussel sprouts, runner beans and cabbage when I do your Sunday roast I miss you telling me how you replied to nuisance calls I miss you telling me stories from years gone by when you drove here there, everywhere and the route you took I miss you moaning that your coffees gone cold as you’ve been chatting on the phone to me I miss you saying ‘hello stranger’ when I only saw you yesterday I miss you telling me to drive your car when we went out (never did as too scared too) I miss getting up early on a Saturday to get your paper with the tv guide And most of all is I just miss YOU!
